Your goal in each Arena is to hit the highest score you can before time runs out, which is marked by the end of the song.Ĭontrols are pretty simple and easy to pick up. The OST ranges from Metal to EDM and sticks within those goalposts throughout, which is where the custom OSTs come in to butter the bread, but we’ll talk about those later. Each character has 4 weapons that are beat-specific: the harder the beat, the bigger the weapon. Gun Jam slots in 10 original tracks to blast to in 3 arenas and a checkpoint-based stage. Gun Jam plops itself in the, “what if Audiosurf but with Guns” seat at the Rhythm FPS table. Gun Jam is currently Mixed on Steam, which always piques my interest, so I dive in and see what kind of flavor this Gun Jam is. After seeing Gun Jam put out solid ideas and presentation through its demo, its 1.0 release has come and gone and, well, fans are not pleased. Rhythm FPS’s have been cropping up at a higher rate in recent years with the likes of BPM and Metal: Hellsinger gracing PCs so seeing studios’ iterations of the genre is just more music to my ears. I do love me some Rhythm games, but I’m not the best at FPS’s, so any time I can combine the two together and use my love for rhythm to help combat my slowly deteriorating hand-eye coordination, I’m all for it. We hope you are still enjoying the experience and looking forward to upcoming updates! Rest assured, we are reading all of the feedback and working hard to remedy things. It can be complex to balance the linear levels making them perfect for a longer, 5-8 min track (such as our OST) but then also ensuring they work well with a shorter, 3 minute track (custom music) for example. We've had to accommodate that which offers a lot to players but then had to make some compromises along the way to ensure custom music works well - we hope you find it's worth it when playing! We're going to continue to tailor and balance the experience and your feedback is invaluable to this. ![]() The arenas provide a strong base line because they're easier to balance and work with, and with any piece of music, not just our original soundtrack - this is really important for custom music, which can vary wildly in duration, tempo and complexity. The new maps will most likely be the linear levels, vs the arenas which occupy most of the current map selection. We’ll let you know when key dates are on the horizon. Our aim is to definitely bring back more of the linear and checkpoint levels (including the demo levels) that we would like to refurbish and release shortly.
